MUSIC APPLICATION
Las Vegas Church of the Nazarene
Music Ministry Guidelines
Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Much prayer, research and thought has been given to several key ministry components, as outlined and discussed below. We believe these components are necessary to successfully produce a meaningful worship service in this exciting time of fulfilling our Church’s mission to our community.
Witness
The Bible says in John 13:34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
The success of our group is not measured by worldly standards but in utilizing the talents that God has graciously given us. By allowing the power of the Holy Spirit to empower our ministry, we can celebrate the life-changing decisions that our church family/community will make for Christ. We believe that this definition of success is predicated on each member having an intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and one another. In Matthew 5:13, Jesus warns us that if we lose our saltiness that we are not good for anything. Therefore, we must strive to examine our lives daily, to ensure that our speech and conduct bring glory to God.
Attitude
We ask that each member keep a positive attitude. When input has been given and decisions are made, please support the final outcome. This is critical to the unity of our ministry. In Ephesians 4:1-4, Paul urges us to live a life worthy of the calling we have received. He says to be “completely humble and gentle; patient, bearing with one another in love. To make every effort to keep unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
Spiritual Disciplines
Christianity is a relationship with Christ. For this relationship to grow, it requires communication with our Heavenly Father through prayer. In fact, in 1st Thessalonians 5:17 God tells us it is His will for us to pray continually or to pray without ceasing. But knowing God is just as important as communicating with God. To know God, one must study His word. According to Jesus, man lives by every word which comes out of the mouth of God. Therefore, we believe that each member of this group should be striving to have a dynamic relationship with Christ through daily devotions and being in a constant state of prayer.
Dedication/Commitment
Each team member who has dedicated himself/herself to this ministry, must commit to attend all the practices. You will be responsible for notifying the Worship Pastor of your expected absence as soon as you become aware of it and to find a replacement. If you have a legitimate reason for missing a practice or a Sunday service in which you are scheduled to lead in the worship, make sure that you call the Worship Pastor. If you are unable to reach Pastor Vicki, please call the church office and leave a message with the church secretary. Failing to do so will be considered an “unexcused absence.” Repeated, unexcused absences will result in our request for your resignation from this ministry.
Appearance
Your appearance must be conducive to worship and not detract from the service. Because we are a visible part of the worship service, we must present a higher dress standard.
Please present a neat, clean, groomed appearance. We request that your clothing be clean and neat. We request that you still adhere to modest standards by not wearing shorts, short skirts, tight or revealing clothes, tank tops or clothes that show a midriff.
Worship Music Ministry Team – New Member Selection Procedures
Since the nature of the Las Vegas area is a transient one, there will be changes to the ministry teams over time, with people moving or leaving the group for various reasons. The following are procedures for the addition of new members:
Recommendation to the Music Team
If the need for additional members is identified, or when people contact you about joining our ministry, please direct them to Pastor Vicki Vaquero.
Ministry Safe
We would love for you to be a part of the LVCN family for six months before you take your first steps to serve in ministry here at LVCN, and this includes serving in Worship Ministries. Following the six months with us we ask that you participate in our Ministry Safe program that requires you to take an in person class. You will fill out an application and the Ministry Safe team will review. Once accepted, you will then take an online class and test. This ensures the upmost safety for our children, youth, and the vulnerable. Please see Pastor Vicki Vaquero for future times that the classes are offered. You will be able to join the Worship team with the expectation that you will follow through with the next upcoming class.
Application
The application will have a section for them to share their personal conversion experience and reasons supporting their desire to join our ministry. It will also ask them to document what part they sing or have sung with other praise teams, if they read music (desired, but not required) and any instruments that they are proficient in playing.
Interview Process
Once an interest to participate in the music ministry at LVCN is expressed, we will have the potential member first fill out the above application. Second, we will have him/her interview with our Lead Pastor, Roland Tedder and Worship Pastor Vicki Vaquero. They will ask questions about the prospective ministry team member’s spiritual health, testimony and what they think that they can add to the ministry. Following this interview, Pastor Vicki will give an audition to identify vocal range and ability and to determine what vocal part would be best suited. If there is an interest in playing an instrument for the Worship Band, Pastor Vicki will audition potential member with a prepared song.
After the interviewing process takes place, we will then determine whether another interview will take place or if the candidate will then join the team. Once he/she is chosen the member will then attend weekly rehearsals to learn the music and bond with team members.
Musical ability and spirit will be observed during this time and during regular rehearsals.
This response card keeps us as leaders accountable to each other. It is our desire to continue in right relationship with our Lord and Savior, be in step with the teachings of the Bible and doctrines of the Church of the Nazarene, to tithe scripturally, to be women and men of integrity, and to work together as team players.
Please fill out the leadership response card and above application and return the printed response card to our Worship Pastor, Vicki Vaquero
I pray that the Lord will bless us in this endeavor and give us guidance. When we make a mistake, as we inevitably will our prayer and desire is that He be quick to correct us and show us the right path. Continue to pray for the ministry, that we will be used to further the Kingdom.
May the peace of the Father rest upon you,
Worship Pastor / Worship Ministry Team Leader- Vicki Vaquero
Lead Pastor- Roland Tedder
